San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan hopped on a conference call with reporters on Wednesday to announce the firing of defensive coordinator Steve Wilks. Additionally, Shanahan confirmed the departures of four assistant coaches, all of which had already been reported.

RELATED 49ers fire defensive coordinator Steve Wilks

"[Assistant offensive line coach] James Cregg got the O-line job with the Raiders," Shanahan stated. "... [Assistant defensive line coach] Darryl Tapp, the D-line coach at Washington, and [assistant head coach and running backs coach] Anthony Lynn is going to be the run-game coordinator at Washington. And I believe we already talked about [offensive passing game specialist] Klint Kubiak."

Kubiak is headed to the New Orleans Saints as their new offensive coordinator.

The 49ers must fill those roles and find a replacement for Wilks. It will be interesting to see which direction Shanahan goes with his decisions.

Cam Newton: 49ers' Super Bowl loss due to 'bad coaching'

By David Bonilla

Feb 19

While former NFL quarterback Cam Newton hasn't wavered in his opinions surrounding San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, who he said played "good enough" for the Bay Area team to beat the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 58, he is directing blame for the loss elsewhere."Field goal versus touchdown, that's not Brock Purdy," Newton said on his "4th and 1" podcast. "Why the [expletive] did they receive the ball first? It was Tony Romo who mentioned this—when you know what you have to get, now you have four downs to get it, not three."Newton added, "The 49ers, they were just trying to get points. And that is not Brock Purdy's fault. That's bad coaching. There was too many people who was exposed. They didn't know the real rules of

He will serve as the New Orleans Saints' offensive coordinator after his stint as the 49ers' offensive passing game specialist.Kubiak only spent one season with the 49ers. Of course, it's unsurprising to see the considerable interest in head coach Kyle Shanahan's coaching staff, given the success many of his proteges have found across the league.Upon his departure, Kubiak had nothing but praise for his time working under Shanahan."Just being here a year, my experience is, Kyle really lets you into his brain in his game plan meetings," Kubiak

Super Bowl LVIII: 49ers' Kyle Shanahan, Brock Purdy discuss offensive shortcomings in third quarter, overtime

By Kirk Larrabee

Feb 11

There will be no shortage of moments the San Francisco 49ers will look back on when trying to figure out what went wrong in their 25-22 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII, but two in particular will be their slow start offensively to the third quarter and the failure to score a touchdown during their lone offensive possession in overtime. The 49ers put up 189 total yards while building a 10-3 first half against the Chiefs, but their offense disappeared early in the third quarter when they were held to three consecutive three-and-outs to start the second half. There was only one running play in those three-and-outs, leading some to wonder what caused the 49ers to move away from the run in that segment of the game.49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was
