About the recipe

I love oats and can have them for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I use them in quite a few different recipes like this quinoa oats idli, oats khichdi and this tomato dosa with oats.

Today’s chia and oat porridge is a hearty Danish breakfast. It is so popular that there is a very popular restaurant with the name Grød in Copenhagen.

Grød means porridge in Danish and it can be either savory or sweet. In this version of Danish grod, chia seeds are used along with rolled oats. Chia adds both texture and nutrition to this dish.

Here are the ingredients you need to make this delicious Danish grid recipe:

  • Rolled Oats. Quick cooking oats will not work because they won't hold their shape and will become too mushy.
  • Non-dairy milk - I use unsweetened almond milk. Any non-dairy or dairy milk will work in this recipe.
  • Chia seeds - this superfood is a great addition to your daily diet. They help to thicken the porridge*.
